One person was killed early Wednesday morning after a structure fire broke out in the county area just outside the city limits of Ripon, authorities said.
According to a social media post from Ripon Consolidated Fire District, fire crews were dispatched at approximately 12:47 a.m. to reports of a residential fire near South Frederick Avenue and West Ripon Road.
Upon arrival, crews found the single-story residence well involved. Due to the severity of the fire, Ripon Fire requested mutual aid from neighboring agencies, including Manteca City Fire, Escalon Consolidated Fire Protection District, and Lathrop-Manteca Fire District. Officials said firefighting efforts were further complicated by a large amount of personal property stored throughout the home.
Despite the response, one person was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s identity has not been released.
The San Joaquin County Fire Investigation Unit and the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and are jointly investigating the incident. No cause of the fire has been released.
