Water use in Ripon has dropped by 20 percent, according to a recent update from Public Works Director James Pease. Pease shared the news at the latest City Council meeting, explaining that the reduction was calculated using pre-drought benchmarks from 2013 for a May-to-May comparison.

Despite the progress, last month’s water consumption was still up 8 percent compared to May 2024, Pease reported.

The city will continue its three-day-a-week watering schedule through the summer. Properties with odd-numbered addresses are permitted to water lawns and gardens on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Even-numbered addresses may water on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. No watering is allowed on Mondays, or between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on any day.

Residents and businesses are also reminded that hosing down driveways, sidewalks, patios, parking lots, and similar surfaces is prohibited, except for sanitation, public health, safety, or fire protection needs.
