Small Business Saturday is back on November 29, marking another nationwide show of support for vibrant Main Streets and the independent shops that call them home—including right here in Ripon. Launched in 2010 by American Express, the post-Thanksgiving event has become a cornerstone of the “Shop Small Movement,” inspiring Americans to spend an estimated $223 billion at locally owned businesses over the last 15 years.

This year, Ripon has something extra to celebrate: Our Ripon has been recognized as a 2025 Neighborhood Champion by American Express, joining an elite group of towns and organizations leading the charge in small business advocacy.
In a major boost for local entrepreneurs, American Express is teaming up with Main Street America to launch the new Amex Shop Small Grants Program. The initiative kicks off on Small Business Saturday, offering $5 million in funding—enough for 250 grants of $20,000 apiece—to eligible small business owners across the U.S. There’s more: For every eligible purchase made with an American Express Card at a participating small business on November 29, the company will contribute an extra dollar to expand the grant pool.
The Amex Shop Small Grants Program highlights the commitment both organizations share in empowering local businesses, which are the backbone of healthy communities and strong local economies.
Small business owners can apply for the program starting on Small Business Saturday, November 29, and applications remain open until 11:59 p.m. CT on Friday, January 16, 2026.
