Ripon Native Cecilia Vega Graduates Police Academy, Begins Field Training with Ripon PD

The Ripon Police Department announced that Officer Cecilia Vega graduated from the San Joaquin Delta College Police Academy on Thursday and will now begin the next phase of her career with the department.

The Ripon Police Department announced that Officer Cecilia Vega graduated from the San Joaquin Delta College Police Academy on Thursday and will now begin the next phase of her career with the department.

Officer Vega is set to start Ripon Police Department’s field training program, a four-month process designed to prepare new officers for independent patrol duties.

According to Lieutenant Jared Heuvel, Officer Vega has deep roots in the community. She grew up in Ripon and continues to reside in the city. Her connection to the Ripon Police Department began early, when she joined the department’s Explorer Program at just 15 years old.

The Explorer Program offers young men and women firsthand exposure to how a police department operates. Participants receive training in various aspects of law enforcement and assist police personnel while volunteering at least 16 hours each month. Explorers also support community events such as the Almond Blossom Festival, Fourth of July celebrations, National Night Out, and Main Street Day.

“From the very beginning, it was clear that Officer Vega was driven to pursue a career in law enforcement, and we are proud of her hard work, dedication to the profession, and her strong desire to serve the community of Ripon,” the department shared in a social media post.

Lieutenant Heuvel also noted a personal detail about the new officer, sharing that Vega actively trains and competes in jiu-jitsu and currently holds a brown belt. In her free time, she also enjoys hiking and working out at the gym.

Several members of the Ripon Police Department attended the graduation ceremony, including Lieutenant Heuvel and Police Chief Daniel Sauer, along with Officer Vega’s family and friends, to celebrate the milestone achievement.
