The Ripon Police Department is preparing to roll out its schedule for Unity in Our Community Week, with two long-running favorites set to return.

On Saturday, August 2, from 9 a.m. to noon, the department will host its popular Shred-It Event at the Ripon Police Department parking lot, 259 N Wilma Ave. Area residents are invited to bring up to two banker-sized boxes of documents for secure, on-site shredding—a partnership with a professional shredding company aimed at helping the community guard against identity theft. This marks the sixth year for the event.

National Night Out, a nationwide initiative that brings neighbors and law enforcement together, is also back on the calendar. The event will take place on Tuesday, August 5, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Community Center, 334 Fourth St. The evening is free and open to residents of all ages, offering interactive games, safety demonstrations, music, giveaways, and hot dogs. Police say it’s a chance for the community to connect with officers in a relaxed, welcoming environment.

National Night Out was launched in 1984 by the National Association of Town Watch to encourage neighbors to step outside, turn on their porch lights, and build connections with each other and local police. Ripon’s police department has participated since 1996.
