Ripon residents are about to pay more for basic services, with solid waste rates climbing 20 percent in February as part of a citywide utility rate hike. The average monthly bill for water, sewer, and garbage will rise to $134.79, up from $123.10.

The City of Ripon informed property owners and utility customers of the upcoming changes in late 2025, ahead of a public hearing held January 13 at City Hall. At the meeting, officials outlined the need for higher rates, citing a recent analysis by an independent expert. The city’s comprehensive rate study evaluated projected costs for the next five years, including maintenance, regulatory compliance, and the replacement of outdated equipment.

City officials say the new rates are necessary to keep utility services running smoothly and to meet state requirements. The updated charges will appear on February bills and are set to remain in effect through 2030.

Residents interested in how the new rates stack up against current bills can find more details in the Water, Sewer, and Garbage Rate Study, available at www.cityofripon.org.
