The City of Ripon reported a significant reduction in water consumption last month, according to updates shared during the May 13, 2025, City Council meeting.
Public Works Director James Pease told council members that water usage in April was 20 percent lower than pre-drought levels recorded in 2013. While the city’s conservation efforts have shown progress over the long term, Pease noted that April’s usage was still 22 percent higher compared to the same period last year.
Ripon residents remain under a three-day-a-week watering schedule as part of ongoing conservation measures. Properties with odd-numbered addresses may water their landscapes on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Even-numbered addresses are permitted to water on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
No outdoor watering is allowed on Mondays, or between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. In addition, irrigation of ornamental landscapes is prohibited during periods of measurable rainfall and for 48 hours afterward.
Washing exterior surfaces such as driveways, sidewalks, patios, parking lots, and aprons with water remains prohibited, except when necessary for sanitation, public health and safety, or fire protection.
